What is the 2026 Civic and Community Impact Fund (CCIF)?

These guidelines are intended to support applicants in preparing strong proposals for the Civic and Community Impact Fund. They outline the program’s objectives, eligibility criteria, priority areas, and examples of supported activities.

Objective

The University of Melbourne proudly embraces its role as a civic and community actor, committed to generating meaningful impact for local communities, democratic institutions, and civil society. Across all faculties and divisions, our staff, students, alumni, and partners are actively engaged in initiatives that enrich civic life and foster stronger, more inclusive communities.

To support and amplify this work, the Civic and Community Impact Fund provides seed funding of up to $15,000 to colleagues involved in community-engaged teaching, research, and public initiatives. This funding is designed to catalyse emerging projects that are community-led or community-informed, and is aligned with the University's strategic vision outlined in Strategy 2030

By investing in these initiatives, the Fund strengthens the University’s goal to be an anchor institution - deeply embedded in and responsive to the communities we serve. It aims to enhance our capacity to build transformative partnerships, address place-based inequities, and contribute to justice and wellbeing in the precincts and places we share.

Focus

Successful projects will demonstrate the potential to make a meaningful and measurable difference by addressing priorities identified by communities with whom the University shares places and precincts. These projects should reflect an understanding of local contexts, be shaped through genuine collaboration with community stakeholders, and include effective, proportionate, engagement and dissemination strategies.

Applicants (Project Leads) are encouraged to propose activities that involve active engagement and co-creation with civic and community organisations located in the priority areas outlined in this document below. Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Convening place-based communities to co-design and deliver collaborative programs or initiatives.
  • Developing and evaluating evidence-based reports that articulate shared outcomes and impact.
  • Producing outputs that can be used as advocacy tools and knowledge resources within both community settings and academic environments.

The communities and precincts that are the focus for this round of funding include the following areas where the University is actively engaged as a civic and community partner:
